Feature - Scottish Wedding | "Dress Stories"

Special thanks to Scottish Weddings for putting together a “wee” write-up about my super-awesome bride, Janine, and her two wedding dresses! Janine had a brilliant approach to finding her wedding dress(es): she rented one and borrowed the other. You can read all about her rented dress from Still White and her grandmother’s borrowed wedding dress by clicking “here”.

Feature - Rangefinder Magazine | "Wedding Proposal Game Plan"

Many thanks to Rangefinder Magazine for sharing my story on how I captured Mark & Chanel’s proposal!

“When thinking about photographing proposals overall, Fiander says it’s important to have a backstory or ruse, so to speak. “The ruse I come up with for my clients depends on the location of their proposal,” she explains. “I’ll ask if the proposer wants to pop the question at one of Bermuda’s beautiful beaches, nature reserves or historic landmarks. If the clients have extra time, they may opt to propose at one location and then take engagement photos at a second nearby location. In some situations, the client may tell their significant other that they’ve booked a photo tour, which would explain why I appear with two cameras. Or I may pose as a landscape photographer and allow the client to approach me at the pre-selected location and ask me for a photo.”

Award - PDN | "Celebrations"

I was super stoked (and a bit shocked) to receive an e-mail from Photo District News notifying me that I was one of their winners in this year’s “Celebrations” contest!  This competition was centered on how we – as humans - celebrate private events, weddings, cultural events, corporate gatherings, and holidays. I took this as an opportunity to consider the work I shoot of my own family (vs. the images I usually take of my clients' families) and submitted a photograph I took of my husband, Jim, sitting at my Grampie’s Christmas dinner table for the first time. Many celebrations have occurred around this table over the years, Birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, Mother's, and Father's Day.  It was extra special to introduce Jim to our family’s Christmas dinner tradition.

My grandfather, Leo, lives in Sykesville, Maryland in a house that was built in 1895.  My late grandmother’s taste and décor still radiates throughout the home: wallpaper adorned with flowers and birds, lace tablecloths, hand knitted kettle covers, and wooden cabinets with a beautiful collection of bone china and dishware.  As we – the “kids” in the family – have grown older and moved further away; our Christmas dinner has scaled down a bit. The time we spend together now is more precious than ever.  To get a peak at our full Christmas story, click “here”! (...because… Christmas stories in May – why not, right?)

Wedding Chicks & 100 Layer Cake

It has been quite the week for Fiander Foto! Love must be in the air as the phone has been ringing off the hook! I took these phone calls as a sign that I should "step up my game" and become a vendor two of my favorite blogs: Wedding Chicks and 100 Layer Cake! If you haven't heard of these blogs yet, be sure to check them out by clicking "here"...and "here". These two sites are fantastic resources for all you brides and grooms out there!

I'm already very impressed with becoming a vendor for Wedding Chicks' because their customer service is top notch! I had a few simple questions upon signing up and sending in images so I sent an e-mail - and - received a response within 30 seconds. Literally. 30. Seconds. (Thank you Nick at Wedding Chicks!) Similar to the customer service photographers provide their own clients, it's nice to receive the same treatment! What is fantastic about 100 Layer Cake is that I'm able to submit promotions that I'm running for all to see! Pretty sweet, eh? If you've worked with me in the past, please be sure to write a review: click "here" for details.
